The Movember Foundation, in partnership with Fero Foundation, is pleased to announce the participation of Spain in a global initiative, the IRONMAN project. This Movember initiative aims to establish an international registry for men with advanced prostate cancer in order to monitor and improve outcomes. The Fero Foundation will be investing €300,000 over 3 years towards this global project in Spain, which is co-funded by Movember.

The IRONMAN registry collects information about a man's type of prostate cancer, their treatment and what side effects they may be experiencing. Collecting and analysing this information will enable researchers and clinicians to better understand how to provide the best possible care to enable men to live the best quality life possible. The strength of IRONMAN lies in its strong global partnership – sharing knowledge so that all men may benefit. During the 4 years of the project, it is expected to recruit 5,000 patients worldwide, thanks to this agreement 500 of them will be Spanish

Paul Villanti, Executive Director of Programmes at The Movember Foundation, says “The current state of men’s health is in crisis. Around the world, men are dying six years younger than women and we need to take action to address the big issues contributing to this. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Spanish men and the IronMan Project represents an exciting and unique opportunity to identify which treatments and care pathways are most successful for men, in terms of both clinical outcomes and also – crucially - the quality of life for the men affected. It is a global collaborative project involving multiple clinical sites and associations and with the addition of support from the FERO Foundation to drive the project in Spain is a big step towards the project achieving its vitally important goals to save and improve men’s lives.”

Ruben Ventura, Scientific Director at Fero foundation, says: “IRONMAN is one of the currently more ambitious collaborative cancer research projects worldwide, and is a pleasure for Fero Foundation to enable the Spanish prostate cancer research community to join the initiative. We strongly believe that the main outcome of the project will change the way men with advanced prostate cancer face the disease by improving treatment and care pathways. We are really excited about this partnership with Movember!”
The Movember Foundation is setting IRONMAN projects up across the globe, to recruit a diverse group of men from all walks of life. They are including patients from oncology and urology practices, academic centers, and community-based practices. By reaching everyone on a global scale, researchers will be able to understand more of the nuances in care.
